If
If I had a choice to decide, I'd like to be living in the lively streets of New York City. I'd hug my body with slim fitting cashmere sweats during the winter and cast a scarf over just to freeze the cold. The concrete jungle where I would take the stroll in the summer for I don't need a Royce to Roll with. I'd like to be living in a time where they play Frank Sinatra's whenever I go about the corner of the buzzing blocks.
"That's life, that's what all the people say.
You're riding high in April,
Shot down in May.
But I know I'm gonna change that tune,
When I'm back on top, back on top in June."
I might be reading the Times in the morning or perhaps even be writing a book where I could spare some of my thoughts on this life. I'd attend ballroom parties, shake hands with important people. Cut from a different cloth, that's how I'd like my suit stitched. Having my hands wrapped around her waist, I'd introduce my company to the closest of friends. We could lift our glasses and toast to the topic of discussion.
I could perhaps live in an apartment; small yet cozy. Snug my feet, lay it back on the stretching couch facing the window and enjoy both dawn and dusk. Fabricate my deepest thoughts while I enjoy my celebration, watching the golden streams of sunlight reflect off the skin of the beautiful lady sitting next to me. Gaze my sight on her brown eyes while I fix my attention to her wishful grin. I would gently place her tender tiny palms on my face, run my fingers across her lips, and maybe elsewhere, and whisper words that don't make sense into her earlobes just to spark an interest. Call aloud her name before she comes in with my coffee in the morning. Mumble about how my toast is not as crisp as I'd like it to be while I roll across the tantrum of my bedsheets. I would tele-ring my Poppa, my Momma in the late afternoons, have long conversations with them about this almost utopian life that they have given me. Have my Momma talk me through on how and why I should be putting on extra clothes in the evenings, while we walk the snow covered streets of Brooklyn.
Then maybe, just maybe, all of Time will stall its clock, and our life would be captured in a black and white polaroid picture. We could then be young and joyful until the last tick of the clock.

But alas, Time is kind yet unforgiving is it not?

Sam Sparro - Black & Gold
and grew legs and they started walking
and the apes climbed down from the trees
and grew tall and they started talking
and the stars fell out of the sky
and my tears rolled into the ocean
now i'm looking for a reason why
you even set my world into motion
*****
i looked up into the night sky
and see a thousand eyes staring back
and all around these golden beacons
i see nothing but black
i feel a way of something beyond them
i don't see what i can feel
if vision is the only validation
then most of my life isn't real
*****
'cause if you're not really here
then the stars don't even matter
now i'm filled to the top with fear
but it's all just a bunch of matter
'cause if you're not really here
then i don't want to be either
i wanna be next to you
black and gold
black and gold
